About the brand

The Youth for India Fellowship is the flagship CSR program of The State Bank of India, run by the SBI Foundation. The fellowship aims to find and groom India’s next generation of social leaders who spend one year to go work in remote parts of India in developing specific areas of rural development. A new graphic design route to give the brand a powerful new look

Sign language helps users break traditional language barriers — so we took inspiration from it to give the SBI YFI Fellowship its own unique brand design. Our grahic design team created symbols to expain the process fellows go through during the fellowship. 

Further to this, the color palette was drawn from high-contrast vision-accessibility guidelines blended with elemental aspects to enhance the sustainability angle of the fellowship.

Here's how social media marketing helped reach millions in just weeks

When nudg started working with the SBI Foundation, it had already built a presence on most key social media platforms. Yet, it was adding new platforms like Instagram, optimizing YouTube, and enhancing the content and messaging on Facebook and Twitter which led to the exponential growth in the audience and reach. Using a memorable new ‘polaroid’ look, and using raw content that painted a realistic picture of the passion of each fellow who was working in the remotest parts of India, we built authenticity and trust around the fellowship. Giving one of India’s premier youth leadership initiatives the best charity marketing strategies it needed to grow. 

Our team also used various social media innovations including Live Videos, Chatbots, Interactive Stories, Takeovers and more to feed the audience a constant supply of fresh and engaging content. The nudg campaigns led to the fellowship seeing a huge spike in applicants who first discovered the fellowship over social media.

Apart from solving a key objective for growing brand awareness and understanding for the fellowship, it was also key to use Live video formats to actively reach more audiences. To help the brand reach more by spending less, the nudg team helped bridge alumni, NGO leaders, and SBI leadership with millions of users across the world. 

The nudg team used out in-house studio team for key events, and after the 2020 lockdown our team redoubled producing live videos using our remote video production studio with digital promotions across chatbot notifications and emailers to remind, alert and ensure thousands of users tuned into the live videos.

Since there were various digital campaigns running with the objective of reaching the ideal mix of applicants, nudg needed to create a landing page. Which was also high-performance, intelligent and able to provide key real-time insights to the media and planning team. For this, our UI design & technology team devised best-practices in charity marketing and developed a custom landing page on nudg’s managed cloud hosting platform. Which helped track attributions & analytics, while also A/B testing various communications strategies on the landing page. 

Going beyond Google Analytics to glean
powerful charity marketing insights

Getting the users to the application form was only half the challenge, the other half was to guide and retain them through the initial phases of the process. When nudg began the project, over 400 emails were being answered each day by the fellowship relations team. To optimize this and to improve performance, nudg implemented FreshDesk support knowledgebase. While also creating automated rules to instantly answer frequent questions. 

At the same time tracking and improving the UI and UX of the application process so the outcomes of the campaign were being met. Using tools like Google Analytics, Hotjar heatmapping, and propreitary user experience mechanisms allowed in over a 400% improvement in campaign outcomes. Even application completions far exceeded the brand’s expectations. Especially during the 2020 pandemic when concerns were at an all-time high.

To project authenticity and build strong brand associations, the nudg media buying team used a careful mix of Google, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube Ads. With strategic ad buys across specific websites and apps. Each ad was optimized and tracked closely using calibrated ad attribution and ROI tools. At the same time our team also analyzed insights from hundreds of charity marketing campaigns to ensure the ideal campaign outcomes.

Only 100 fellows made the cut to become fellows in each cohort. It was a key goal for the nudg team to keep the audience engaged and invested in the fellowship as the fellowship team went about their selection and interview processes.

The chatbot not only answered questions, but also shared stories about fellows, informed the audience with the latest updates around the fellowship.

The IPL #tmwKiyaKya Mobile App Marketing Campaign

To harness India’s cricket obsession into a powerful app growth marketing opportunity, the leadership and nudg marketing team decided to tap into the 2018 Edition of the IPL. However, the Indian Premier League is also by far one of the most expensive annual properties available to brands. Since the brand had limited budgets, we decided to run a campaign parallel to the IPL with the hopes of attracting some brand recall. 

The idea? Tweet to tmw each time a wicket fell, and with each match, users could win up to ₹1,00,000 ($2000)! With over 20 matches and hundreds of Millions of Indians tuning in, the campaign was an underdog in comparison to brands who had invested over 10x the campaign budget. The multi-channel campaign exploded across social media. It was an instant hit with millions reached and the brand grew all key metrics manifold.

To sharply deliver the communication, nudg developed a concept, script, storyboard, produced, and launched the ad-film in under a week — just in time for the IPL Season. Working with the experienced production team at Citoc Motion Pictures, who solved all other key aspects of the film production. The casting, the studio location, production, sound-editing and post-production was smoothly executed to meet the short deadline. Additionally, the nudg media planning and buying team also targeted the ad to key audiences. Who were identified across Facebook & YouTube to reach millions of users. Finally, here’s a preview of the film storyboard used for the film and some backstage snapshots from the shoot.

As a fintech app, a key focus for growth was to drive more in-app transactions. A key strategy was to achieve this was to tie-up with hundreds of popular brands and offer discounts or offers on using the wallet for payments. However, the challenge was that many other brands also used this same approach. Leveraging Digital for Powerful Event Marketing

When Jammin’ was conceived by Qyuki and YouTube India joined the project, the event management team wanted to hire the best digital marketing company to promote it’s flagship IP. Headling with India’s Oscar-winning legendary maestro, A. R. Rahman, and other legendary composers and YouTubers, the concert was a first-of-its-kind initiative. As this new IP was going to bring together 4 bollywood legends and 9 popular YouTube creators in a never before seen format, expectations were high. For starters, the structure of the website was designed for SEO & search traffic, with pages for each artiste created to promote their music video releases. Additionally, the website UI & UX approach was also used to explain and organize contests, showcase new releases, press coverage, and finally sell concert tickets in just few days from launch. 

Another key part of the event marketing plan was the planned release of various music videos. Each a collaboration between music talents of different genres and audience types. In other words, an experienced bollywood composer like Mithoon would collaborate with YouTube musical duo Maati Baani to create Naina Bawre (linked below).

How we Optimized the Website UI for Hyperlocal Discovery

It was well understood that users would need to build trust with the brand before requesting any service. In this case, the goal was to establish strong trust and confidence with the brands audience. To achieve this, the first step was to create a powerful home page, which clearly conveyed the brands offerings and values. However, because clutter wasn’t going to help, we created a design system which would allow the design to scale over time. Design on the whole was broken down into customer experience centric layouts. These included — a funtional hero section, press coverage, user reviews, services, and professional reviews as key elements. 

In essence, users could build trust quickly with the brand, while also using the website as a functional business growth tool. 

The website was also built from the ground up to ensure strong SEO capabilities which used strong on-page and off-page strategies by using services like SEMrush, and Google Search Console.

The App UI UX Design Approach

Since the home services category had some established players, it was important for any new brand to demonstrate its key differentiators. Our next goal was to clearly allow users to discover the wide variety of offerings quickly and clearly. Finally, since the brand was built around trust and extensive background checks for all service technicians, and hyperlocal marketing and local discovery were key factors, we optimized the UI to achieve that. 

The Chairman and founder, a global security services provider, worked directly with nudg strategy and design teams to help achieve his vision for the brand. 

Since the client had already trusted nudg to be the best UI UX Design agency for the project, they were also open to integrating inputs and suggestions from us. It started with a design sprint, where our team worked with the leadership team. Followed by detailed profiling, and user persona studies, surveys, and wireframing process. This also included fine-tuning the disconnected branding design with a unified color palette and design system. Finally, the entire flow of the app was mapped out using wireframes and design prototyping before being finalized and shared with the product & development teams to be launched as iOS and Android apps listed across India, Malaysia, and Dubai.

As an early-stage brand that was launching across various cities simultaneously, Cheep wanted to make a splash with its digital marketing campaigns. As the brand began to list its range online, the key objective was to showcase the core benefits each of the products offered.
